When God Reveals the Unseen: Hidden Danger, Visible Grace
Two weeks after returning from India, our hearts were still there. We missed everything - the people, the atmosphere, and especially the food. Naturally, we began craving something close to home, and nothing felt more comforting than biryani - our all-time favourite.
So, we decided to prepare mutton biryani.
While cutting the mutton, something unexpected happened. A small piece of the knife broke off. We weren’t sure where it went - whether it had fallen into the sink or gotten lodged inside one of the bones. We searched carefully through every piece of meat, trying our best to ensure nothing was there. But we couldn’t find it.
With uncertainty still lingering, we continued cooking.
Once the biryani was ready, my husband and I ate with slight hesitation. We were cautious, yet we didn’t find anything unusual. We assumed the broken piece must have fallen somewhere else.
Later that evening, our children came home from school. Like us, they love biryani and were excited to eat.
Then came the moment we will never forget.
As my son was chewing, he suddenly paused and pulled out a small piece of metal from his mouth. It was part of the broken knife. Our hearts stopped for a second - but immediately, gratitude filled us because he noticed it and removed it safely.
But that was only half of the missing piece.
We quickly asked the children to stop eating the meat. Yet, in God’s perfect timing, my son found the remaining piece as well - hidden in the same mutton portion.
At that moment, our eyes filled with tears.
We realized how close we had come to something dangerous. Despite all our efforts to check carefully, we had missed it. But God hadn’t.
Just as it is written, “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain” (Psalm 127:1, NIV). We did everything we could to ensure safety, yet it was not our effort that ultimately protected us - it was God’s watchful hand.
He knew exactly where those pieces were. And at the right moment, He revealed them - not to our little daughter, but to our elder son, who could recognize and remove them safely. Truly, “He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11, NIV).
What could have been a moment of harm became a testimony of divine protection.
We often think we are the ones protecting our children. We try our best, we stay alert, we take precautions. But moments like this gently remind us of a deeper truth - our protection has limits, but God’s does not.
He sees what we cannot see.
He knows what we do not know.
And He steps in at the exact right time.
As we reflect on this, our hearts rest in His promise: “The Lord will keep you from all harm - He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (Psalm 121:7–8, NIV).
Today, our hearts are filled with gratitude. Not just because nothing happened - but because we experienced, once again, how faithfully God watches over us.
His grace covers even the smallest details of our lives.
And His protection never fails. 🙏✨
